Breast augmentation surgery, technically known as augmentation mammoplasty is the surgical process of inserting implants into the breasts, thus providing them with a more enhanced look. It has undergone a radical change since the time it was first introduced in the 1960s. Today, it is considered a safe process and is used by several women all over the world every year. In the year 2002 itself, approximately 225,000 women underwent it, and the number is increasing each year.
Women go for it because it is the quickest and surest way for increasing the bust size. This method is preferred by women who cannot afford to have patience which is required with other natural and herbal methods of it. This includes celebrities and women who need to appear more frequently on the social scene. Though the method is safe enough today, it is not without its share of risks and dangers, and hence a complete knowledge of what to do and what not to do with breast implants is absolutely vital.
Choosing Breast Augmentation Sizes
One of the primary steps when you are going in for a breast augmentation surgery is to decide what size you would like your bust line to be. There is no common bust line for all women. This is because of the following two reasons:-
- Each woman has a different figure, and different bust sizes complement their unique features.
- Each woman has her own likes and dislikes. Some women like the big-breasted look, while some others like the more subtle look.
Hence, deciding the correct size of your breast augmentation implants is important. The following points will illustrate the current trends in different kinds of women who undergo breast augmentation:-
(i) In the days of Marilyn Monroe, the voluptuous figure was considered to be more appealing. Women at that time did not mind going in for higher breast implants, though breast implants were no so very common in those days. Even today, you will be surprised to know that many women like the Monroe look, and try to have a two to three cup size increase in their bust. This is sometimes compounded by the husbands or boyfriends of the women who want them to have a more buxom look. This trend is seen more prevalent in women who have crossed 35 to 40 years of age.
(ii) The current young generation is more influenced by the waif-like, almost anorexic beauties of Hollywood and the music world. Hence, women going in for breast implant surgeries today do not prefer much larger bust sizes. An increase of one or two cup sizes is what is considered average.
(iii) One more important thing is the breast augmentation trend is that today’s woman does not much like an increase in the volume of the bust. What is more desirable is the firming and toning of the breasts. Most implants today are done for enhancing the look of the busts, rather than increasing their bulk.
Breast Correction Surgery
Breast augmentation surgery is a prosthetic surgery, and hence its effects may wear down with time. This causes the necessity of a correction surgery after a couple of years. In general, it has been seen that women who undergo breast augmentation at the age of 35 years need to have at least two correction surgeries in their remaining lifetime.
The correction surgery could be a readjustment of the existing implants, or they may be removal and replacement of the implants altogether. Most women opt for the second. As new advancements in surgery take place, more women avail of the benefits. That explains the enormously high number of women who went for correction surgeries in the early years of this millennium. That was the time when the saline filled transplants were found to be much superior than silicone gel filled transplants.
The number of women who undergo breast correction surgery each year is much higher than the number of women who undergo augmentation mammoplasty. Even in this statistic, the number of women who undergo implant replacement is much higher than those who go for simple implant correction. A rough survey indicated that 13% women went for correction, while a much higher percentage, 92% went for breast implant replacement.
Risks Involved Concerning Breast Augmentation Sizes
Breast augmentation is not without its share of risks. If you do not make a proper informed decision about what breast size you want beforehand, you could land up with the following complications:-
(i) Too big sized implants will spoil your overall body look rather than improve it. Just imagine a women with a bigger bust than her hips, or with widely out of proportion breasts. Hence, you should not get carried away with the big breasts of the celebrities and decide what suits your body the best. Doctors can use computer graphic aided images to help you on this.
(ii) It is biologically dangerous to increase the bust size by more than two cup sizes. This cause several problems with muscle tautness, tissue firmness and even causes hormonal imbalances. There may also be risk of breast cancer, though this is not proved yet.
(iii) Last but not the least, remember that your breasts are an erogenous part of your body. Your implants could interfere with your sexual stimulation of these organs.
Being forewarned is to be armed, they say. This is absolutely true in the case of breast implants. Before going in for this enhancement surgery, it is necessary that you study about its various pros and cons.
