Missionary Position, Women On Top Position

Sexual intercourse is not just a biological activity; the numerous variations people have developed in it makes it almost an art. Men and women have discovered and perfected several positions to perform lovemaking. Some of these positions are natural, i.e. they are the positions that provide natural comfort to the participating individuals. But there are also complicated variations, which provide more pleasure than comfort. Here we discuss two of the most natural conventional sexual positions.

Missionary Position

The missionary position is undoubtedly the most popular position of copulating couples all over the world. In the missionary position, the woman lies on her back with her legs spread and folded into the air. The male then enters from top and inserts his penis into her vagina.

There are many advantages of this position:-

The couple is face to face in this position. They can see each other’s facial expressions. For some people observing the partner’s expressions during lovemaking turns them on extremely.
This is a natural comfort position. The woman is well rested as she is lying on her back.
This method locks the male organ into the vagina thoroughly. There is very less chance (almost nil) of the male organ slipping out of the vagina. There is also minimal loss of semen due to this region. It is therefore an ideal position for men with short male organ.
This method allows the upper bodies of the couple to rub against each other, thus heightening sexual passion. The male can feel the nipples and breasts of the female.
The position allows the couple to share oral stimulation by kissing.
Being a natural comfort position, the couples can remain locked even after orgasm is achieved for those precious after-sex moments of sharing and caring.
The position allows rubbing of the clitoris with the male organ.

However, it is also criticized by some due to the following reasons:-

This method allows total control to the male over the sexual act. Some feminists consider the position reduces the woman to nothing more than a sex toy for the female.
The woman may get tired after some time of keeping her legs folded in the air. Also the woman may become tired of bearing the man’s weight on her.
Similarly, after some time the man may get tired of supporting his body’s weight on the palms of his hands.
Another criticism is that the position does not allow partners to see each other’s bodies. Though they can be face to face, there is no visual stimulation of breasts or buttocks. Thus the partners have to rely on the physical touch for their orgasm.
Some women enjoy stimulating their clitoris by their own fingers or having their partners do it for them. In the missionary position it is difficult for either partner to reach the clitoris by hand.

This position has been used since several centuries. There is a common belief that this position is called as the missionary position because it is the position that has been described by the Christian Church to be the most correct and purest position to have sex. However, there is no justification to this claim.

Woman-on-Top Position

This position is a variant of the missionary position in which the roles of the man and the woman are reversed. In this position, the man lies on his back, with his legs straight. The woman then sits on his erect penis so that the male organ penetrates into the vagina. The woman then pumps up and down on the it till it ejaculates and she gets her orgasm.

The advantages of the woman-on-top position are as follows:-

It allows the man to rest completely, while the woman does the active role. This position is therefore prescribed by doctors for men who have some physical disabilities, or have suffered from strokes and should not exert themselves much. Even men who are tired from their daily work prefer their wives to relax them with this position.
Both partners can get visual sexual stimulation of each other’s bodies.
The man can easily caress the breasts and buttocks of the woman.
There can also be other hardcore stimulation. The woman in most cases reaches behind and stimulates the man’s testicles. The man can also reach out to caress the woman’s buttocks. He can rub her clitoris with his hand.
If they so desire, either the man can reach up or the woman can reach down to perform deep kissing on each other.
This position gives complete control to the female. Hence, this is a much-preferred position of feminists.

The woman-on-top position has its drawbacks also. Some of the important ones are as follows:-

One of the most problematic disadvantages is with inexperienced couples trying this position. As the woman pumps up and down, the male organ can come out of the vagina. This causes the cumbersome act of having to put the male organ inside the vagina repeatedly.
The woman gets exerted (especially her knees) after some time.
Some men do not like having their women on top. It gives them a sense of inferiority.

However, the woman-on-top position has a different kind of appeal also. It is used widely in the world of BDSM, especially in female domination lovemaking. This position has strong connotations of male submission, which are enhanced by the use of fetishist devices such as tying the man to the bed, dressing up in leather, etc.
